"I'll always remember Joe Kubert as a scab artist who chose a paycheck over decency in signing on to DC's egregious Before Watchmen project," Doane wrote.
Despite comments from others on his blog, Doane chose to keep his disgusting attack on Mr. Kubert on his website even on the day of Mr. Kubert's memorial services.
For his despicable act of attention-seeking at the expense of mourners, we grant Alan David Doane the Scumbag Award.

Hey, remind me, what permanent contributions to the language of comics
have you made over a 50 year career? – Max Robinson
Fuck you, sir. That you would print this after Kubert's death
when he is unable to respond to it is cowardly and unconscionable. That
you would then try to draw an equivalency between Kubert and a man who shielded
a *pedophile* is profoundly offensive on every conceivable level. Here's
a suggestion: it is okay for you not to type out every thought that crosses
your mind. – Daniel Ben-Zvi
The Trouble With Comics: People like Alan David Doane. Well done sir.
You have somehow equated Kubert's work akin to ignoring a child molester.
– Rob Haney
Yes, because covering up paedophilia and working on a bad comic are totally the same thing. – Jack Connel
let me get this straight, you take the opportunity that someone has passed away, to publish an article for the sole purpose of ranting about your distaste of a comic book series? And then you have the nerve to compare it to Joe Paterno who sat by and let kids get molested? How in the world is that even comparable to A COMIC BOOK!!!!! And you have the nerve to call out DC's moral and ethical choices as well as the different writers and artists that chose to do so, while being immoral and unethical by bashing a guy who just passed away because "I don't like that he didn't respect Alan Moore's plea, so I'm going to piss on his yet to be dug out grave" Yeah, as if that isn't being a hypocrite. – Arnaldo Reyes
You are a horrible horrible human being. Get your priorities straight... – John Wilson
Wow. You thoroughly undermine the point you're trying to make by comparing Joes Kubert and Paterno.
It's perfectly acceptable to not like that Kubert did Before Watchmen. It's acceptable to not like Kubert for it. Finding a way to liken it to covering up child abuse is ridiculous. It makes you look petty. It cheapens what was done to innocent children. And it makes me think you're not qualified to participate in this debate. – Justin Peniston
